Hearthstone – Priests Need a Nerf?
This has been a discussion between Rek and me for some time. At one point I didn’t believe him because I overlooked a simple card Divine Spirit used in conjunction with Inner Fire. The concept is to increase the creature’s health and switch it to its attack. This works quite well with several creatures including Gurubashi Berserker. They just synergize well, now combine that with your Power Word Shield and Lesser Heal, you are unstoppable save for instakill spells. Now here’s the kicker you can push even further if you have Lorewalker Cho, as you can constantly keep getting your Divine Spirits recasting them along with Inner Fire. This would work well on him actually, as you would just keep increasing his health exponentially. Now, this does, however, cap out around a million or so and your creature will then kill itself.
Now let’s take a look further, why does a priest have such a powerful card/card in their deck? The priest is inherently weaker than other decks. Yeah, you have your heals, but besides that, you don’t have much oomph when it comes to damaging abilities. Now let’s say you throughout a Lightwell + Lorewalker Cho and started casting Divine Spirit on both, as to protect Cho while upping your Lightwell. Would this work? Yes, however, your opponent should see through this unless they are not paying attention. Several rights placed instant kill cards along with some polymorphs and hexes should stop this from happening. Now for a priest who builds his deck on the Divine Spirit principle that’s really all he has if he doesn’t get it well, he’s pretty much screwed from the get-go. This balances out, the fact that it has infinite potential.
Now let’s say you throw out Lorewalker Cho a Lightwell and a taunt creature. You then use your Divine Spirit on your taunt creature to get it up so that it pretty much is the ultimate tank, then you start buffing your other two. If your opponent is a good sport and just wants to see where this is going. They will watch it happen it can be entertaining to see how high the numbers can go sometimes it’s just a matter of waiting for the Inner Fire. After trying this out in my deck, and using it (I don’t have Lorewalker Cho yet), It is a great combination. You may not win all the time if you get a bad draw but you will usually give other classes a run for there money. It is also worth mentioning that Lightspawn works well here to if you are using the Lorewalker Cho + Divine Spirit as Inner Fire is not needed as the health of that creature is always the attack.
