Windows 10, My Thoughts So far
So Windows 10 was released yesterday around midnight (July 29, 2015) I know some people are still waiting on their downloads. Some are wanting to know is it worth it to upgrade? Will my programs still work? What are the benefits of Windows 10?
Well to be honest there are many benefits to Windows 10, first and foremost it gets rid of the horrendous Windows 8 or 8.1 and brings back the familiar Start Menu. Cortanna is somewhat useful however I have a hard time getting her to do what I want and have never much been into the whole voice to computer. As for my gaming experience, do my apps and programs still work. Yes for the most part they still do, I had an issue with installing my Catalyst Control Panel and Drivers for my 290s. I believe it has more to do with my hard drives then it does Windows 10 (I have had an issue with computer freezes since my SSD died). It took my 3 times to get the Driver installed Once the driver was installed it ran smoothly.
Of course, I had to do a complete restart after (which you should do after installations), after a slow start up (because of my regular HDs) i get back in and Windows 10 has run smooth. A few issues to note and may be different for each some games and programs need to be ran in Windows 7 to allow them to still run correctly. The developers of your programs and games will need to update the game for 10 or you just stay with compatibility mode.
I have had no issues with video, I have used very little of Microsoft Edge, from what I can see visually it is an improvement over Internet Explorer. However, I will be sticking to Google Chrome for the time being. The upgrade was quite seamless though took some time, though I believe an hour isn’t too bad for install and set up time. Most driver issues can be solved by restarting (as it will take a moment for drivers to be recognized and installed. An issue I had with a game (Digimon Masters Online) was the mouse stopped working when I exited the game. The only fix I had was to unplug the mouse and plug it back in. A bit of a pain but it fixed things right up. I expect this to be fixed in a future patch or system fix.
If you haven’t gotten your download yet don’t worry they are being rolled out in waves, if you just can’t wait go ahead and sign up for the Windows Insider program and you will be able to download right now.
