World of Warcraft: Classic Professions for Classes and Why it’s Important
As someone who has played World of Warcraft throughout the years, classic professions seemed like a cool side thought that while I did them I didn’t pay much mind to max
You might be asking why you would want to level the professions as you level? Why not just wait till you max out your character level and then rank up those professions? Well for one money isn’t as easy to come by in Vanilla/Classic, meaning you will be farming mobs just to pay for spell upgrades and eventually your mounts at level 40 and level 60. Not to mention when you start raiding or doing PvP, you need flasks, potions and other items to be fully effective. While dungeon farming will be one way to make money, many people will end up wanting different mats to level their own professions.
So if you put in the work mining, skinning, or gathering herbs you will be able to make money off the Auction House. Don’t underestimate how well professions do on the Auction House, many people will go there looking for items they need for quests, small upgrades to push out extra DPS or give them a little extra armor.
Now, why would I suggest at the beginning of the article to level up your professions while leveling? Well in Classic/Vanilla nodes do not give you XP to mine them, also all nodes are shared between players. So one of the best things you can do is to try and cap out your professions per zone you are already in, and mail any mats you may get to a bank toon so that it isn’t taking up bag space while you are out and about. You can then do a few things either sell the mats from the gathering profession or sell the crafted items from the professions. Many times your crafted gear will be an upgrade from what you can get in the world (not always and usually dungeons gear will be better).
Classes + Profession
While many may say it’s useful to get engineering because of the items for extra DPS, I am going to put what I believe is the best class combinations. While Racial Bonuses are important, I am not going to go into which Races for Classes in this article.
- Warrior – Blacksmithing + Mining
- Paladin – Blacksmithing + Mining
- Hunter – Engineering + Mining
- Druid – Alchemy + Herbalism
- Mage – Alchemy + Herbalism
- Warlock – Enchanting + Tailoring
- Priest – Enchanting + Tailoring
- Shaman – Leatherworking + Skinning
- Rogue – Leatherworking + Skining
Warrior and Paladin
Warriors can be pretty flexible, as I said in the beginning if you want a little extra DPS Engineering is a good way to go. However, the best combination for gear and potential upgrades is Blacksmithing and Mining. You have the ability at higher Blacksmithing Levels to go for Weaponsmith or Armorsmith. While once you start Raiding much of the gear will become obsolete, it still gives you a good start.
As for
Hunter
While other classes can utilize Engineering and Mining, Hunter is the one who can utilize it to the fullest. As it is aimed at making scopes, ammo and other trinkets. Engineers can make the best ammo in the game so it’s a no brainer that a hunter will want to be an engineer. While the best Race for engineering is Gnomes, however, they cannot be hunters in Classic.
Druid and Mage
I chose Druid and Mage for Alchemy and Herbalism. Druids for purely Roleplay Purposes it seems like a good pick. You could always switch it out for Leatherworking and Skinning. However, making potions, flasks, and daily transmutes will be useful to your party and guild.
As for Mages, the reasoning is simple they do not get Water Breathing, and the Alchemy potion of Water Breathing pairs up well for mages. Again you can always switch it out for Tailoring and Enchanting.
Warlock and Priest
I chose Warlock and Priests for tailoring and enchanting, due to both being cloth wearers. While priests could be switched up for Alchemy, I don’t believe that is a good pairing for Warlocks. As Warlocks get a Water Breathing Spell of Unending Breath. So naturally Tailoring to make your own gear and so you can disenchant any items you don’t need. Enchanting will also be useful for making your own wands and making money from tips enchanting other peoples gear.
Shaman and Rogue
I picked Shaman and Rogue for Leatherworking and Skinning. Early on Shamans use Leather gear, while that is all Rogues can use. So it’s a good pairing for being able to have your own gear as you level. At higher levels you will be able to advance to making Mail which is what you will need for your Shamans.
While you can have a character dedicated to farming ore and herbs, for profit. I would suggest sticking to the pairings unless you are planning to combine up professions like Blacksmithing and Engineering etc. Keep in mind no matter which route you go you will want to be playing the AH or else it will be all for naught.
